Luxury in the Wild Australian Outback – Western Australia has been regarded as one of the last real wilderness areas in the world. Of its many wonders are the Bungle Bungle Mountains inside Purnululu, a UNESCO-recognized national park, Horizontal Waterfalls that are just like they sound, and the Southern Hemisphere’s largest freshwater lake, Lake Argyle, which covers an area of a whopping 560 square miles.
The Outback is wild, there’s no argument against that – but that doesn’t mean that you have to compromise on the 5-star comforts you’ve come to know while on holiday. In fact, the wild Western Australian Outback is actually home to some of the most lavish properties in the country.
The El Questro Homestead is set amidst some of the Kimberley region’s most rugged landscapes and covers over a million acres. The homestead looks like a bridge spanning the incredible Chamberlain Gorge. Past guests include Kylie Minogue and Nicole Kidman. You, too, will have the choice of dining cliffside with only a blanket of stars to flying over the majestic landscapes in a private helicopter, going 4-wheeling through lush greenscapes, or sailing in a private yacht.
About 1500 miles to the southwest along National Highway 1, you’ll find Sal Salis, an exclusive, eco-friendly camp tucked into the silvery sand dunes at Cape Range National Park. Ningaloo Reef, the greatest coastal reef in the world, is nearby and you can swim with whale sharks and more than 500 different species of fish. Meals will include modern Australian favorites with a touch of bush food.
About three hours to the south of the capital city of Perth, along the Margaret River, is Cape Lodge. It’s certainly not considered as remote as the previous two settings, however it’s placement near some of the world’s greatest vineyards and beautiful beaches make Cape Lodge a worthy luxury destination. There are only 22 suites, meaning it won’t be so crowded that you can’t enjoy peaceful relaxation, and when you’re ready to dine, the lodge’s Lakeside Restaurant is perfect. Conde Nast Traveller voted Lakeside’s food number four on the planet, and the newest luxury package offered includes all meals, exclusive wine tastings, and a tour of the Margaret River.
Whatever you’re looking for in the wilds of Australia, you’re sure to find something that tames your wild heart.
